Slippery Falls Scout Ranch

 

Archeology
Learn about the ancient cultures that roamed the streams and meadows of Slippery falls Scout Ranch. Some written work is required. Requirements 4 and 11 can be completed at camp.

Camping
This badge is required for Eagle, and is a two hour session. It requires an overnight camping trip. Scouts should bring appropriate camping equipment (backpack, sleeping bag, etc.) In addition, Scouts must bring a personal or unit tent from home suitable for backpacking, and know how to set it up. Requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, 6a, 6b, and 7c may be done before coming to camp. Requirement 8 must be done before coming to camp. Other pre-requisites to complete before coming to camp are:
    Requirement 7: Prepare for overnight campout with patrol
    Requirement 8D: cook three meals from planned menu on a campout
    Requirement 9A: camp a total of 20 days and nights

Cooking
This badge is a two-hour session. It requires cooking to be done in the program area for most of the week (food will be provided). Cooking experience highly recommended. Requirements 1 and 2 may be done before coming to camp.    Other pre-requisites to complete before coming to camp are: Requirements 4, 6, 7D: cooking meals planned from menus

Climbing
This badge is recommended for older Scouts. This merit badge will involve the study of how to climb and rappel safely.

Indian Lore
This badge is recommended for all Scouts. There is a small cost for materials. This merit badge will involve the study of various American Indian tribes. Our camp is fortunate enough to be located near several major tribes. We will have Native Americans assisting with the class. Requirement 1 may be completed before coming to camp.

Orienteering
This badge is a two-hour session. It requires setting up and completing orienteering courses. Experience with a map and compass is helpful. Some physical stamina required to run courses. Scouts should bring a compass. Requirement 10 may be done before coming to camp.

Pioneering
This two-hour session requires that you complete a pioneering project. A familiarity with knots, lashings, and splices is important.

Wilderness Survival
This badge is a two-hour session. It requires an overnight camping trip. Requirement 5, make a personal survival kit and explain how each item is useful, should be completed before coming to camp.

Paul Bunyan Award
Scouts will have the opportunity to learn about wood's tools and how they are used for trail conservation. Scouts will also carry out a trail conservation project.

COPE
Older Scouts and Venturers will have the opportunity to enjoy a COPE experience. COPE stands for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience.
