Archeology
The past will come alive as scouts learn about ancient civilizations and how their remains have been unearthed.
Archery
Scouts will learn how to safely handle and shoot bow and arrow. There will be an approximate fee of $5 for arrow making supplies. Second year campers and older should take this badge.
Indian Lore
Scouts will learn about Native American culture, tradition, crafts and games. Scouts will also be taking a tour of the Chickasaw Council House Museum. There will be a fee of about $5 for program materials.
Basketry
In this badge scouts will be making a two different types of basket and weaving a stool seat. There will be a materials cost of about $12 required.
Pottery/Sculpture
For the pottery portion of the badge, each Scout will make his own clay pot while learning a variety of pottery techniques. Different aspects of the ceramic industry are discussed. For the Sculpture portion of the badge, scouts will learn basic sculpting and molding techniques through the use of clay and plaster. There will be a small fee for materials. Scouts will complete both badges while at camp.
Art/Textiles
Scouts in this session should have some drawing or artistic experience. There is a lot of freedom in choosing medium and subjects for artwork. Requirement 7 for art may be completed before coming to camp. Scouts will learn the process for making cloth and differences in types of fiber samples. Jobs in the textile industry are also discussed. This merit badge is excellent for younger Scouts. There is a small cost for materials. Scouts will complete both merit badges while at camp. |
