Climbing
In this merit badge scouts will have the opportunity to climb in our indoor
climbing gym, on our tower and on natural rock. Scouts will learn
about how to properly climb, climbing safely, and how to tie all of the
knots. Scouts must be 13 years of age by January 1, 2010 to take this
merit badge.
COPE
COPE stands for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience. In this activity
scouts will learn problem solving skills, teamwork, and leadership.
Scouts will spend the beginning of the week on the ground doing lower
element activities to develop trust, teamwork, and to get to know each
other. The last part of the week will be spent on our high course, 30 feet
up in the air. If there is space available, leaders may participate as well
and earn their COPE Facilitator certification. Scouts must be 13 years of
age by January 1, 2010 to participate.
Slippery Falls
Outback
Scouts 14 years of age or older will have the opportunity to experience
one of the most exciting high adventure programs in the country. Each
participant will spend the week backpacking around Slippery Falls, while
participating in a wide variety of activities, ranging from COPE, Horsemanship,
Orienteering, Lifesaving, Motor Boating, Mountain Biking, Rock
Climbing, Swimming, GPS Navigation, Blacksmithing, Flintnapping,
Bullet Casting, Black Powder Shooting, tomahawk throwing, a mountain
man encampment, wilderness survival, backpacking, and as many more
that we can cram into only one week at camp. Also, during this program,
scouts will be able to see most of our “unexplored” areas of camp
that “normal” campers and staffers are not permitted to see!
Scouts should bring a good pair of hiking boots, backpacking gear for
hiking and camping, a tent, sleeping back, long pants, pocket knife, compass,
2 water bottles, eating utensils, water shoes, tennis shoes, swimsuit,
towel, sunscreen, bug repellent, flashlight and a lot of energy.
Participants must be in physical shape to hike between 5 and 10 miles per day.
Adult leaders are encouraged to participate as well!
