Art
Scouts in this session should have some drawing or artistic experience. There is a lot of
freedom in choosing medium and subjects for artwork. There may be a small cost for
materials. Requirement 7 may be completed before coming to camp. Basketry
Each Scout will learn to weave his own basket and make one that he can take home. This is
an excellent merit badge for young Scouts. There is a small cost for basket materials.
This badge often takes less than the full week to complete.
Leatherwork
This is another good badge for young Scouts. There is a small cost for materials.
Requirement 3 may be done before coming to camp.
Metal Work - This Merit Badge is no longer being offered at camp, beginning with
summer of 2007.
Pottery
Each Scout will make his own clay pot while learning a variety of pottery techniques.
Different aspects of the ceramic industry are discussed. There is a small cost for
materials.
Sculpture
Scouts will learn basic sculpting and molding techniques through the use of clay and
plaster. There will be a small fee for materials.
Textiles
Scouts will learn the process for making cloth and differences in types of fiber samples.
Jobs in the textile industry are also discussed. This merit badge is excellent for younger
Scouts. There is a small cost for materials.
Wood Carving
This merit badge is not recommended for first year Scouts. There is a small cost for
materials. Knives are available for Scouts to use or Scouts may use their personal knives.
Personal knives should be sharp and pocket knives are highly discouraged.
